The sensing is what lets a device act correctly: weighing food and cats, seeing the bowl, knowing a cat is inside, detecting dry running. Where a decision can be made on the device it is made there, which keeps response fast and cloud cost low.

Most pet-tech returns are mechanical: a jammed auger, a stuck drum, a noisy pump. The mechanism, its motor drive and its firmware are tuned together against real food, litter and water, and tested for long cycle counts.

Battery, protection, CE / FCC / food contact
Anything that moves near an animal needs hard limits: torque, temperature, anti-pinch. Batteries need transport testing before anyone ships them by air; food-contact parts need materials chosen for the market. These are planned at scoping, not discovered at the forwarder.
